18 Month Old Sohil Morar Urgently Needs A Bone Marrow Donor

Sohil Morar

After 10 years of marriage Ajay and Lea Morar were blessed with the birth of their baby boy Sohil Morar born on the 15th of February 2011.

Sohil is an active, happy and intelligent baby. On the 26th of July 2012 he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia despite this he maintains his good spirit.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is cancer that starts inside bone marrow, the soft tissue found inside bones that helps form blood cells. The cancer grows from cells that would normally turn into white blood cells. Acute means that the disease develops quickly.

Currently Sohil is undergoing treatment at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. He urgently requires a bone marrow donor and his doctors have already searched local and international registries and have not found a match. The odds of finding a donor is 1 in 100 000 and considering South Africa has only 65 000 registered donors this is a difficult process. Sohil needs to find a donor and have the transplant done in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

The question posed to you: are you prepared to be a donor for Sohil only or are you prepared to be a National donor who is willing to help anyone who may need a donor?

For further details on how you can help Sohil and others please visit www.bonemarrowforsohil.co.za or The Sunflower Fund alternatively you can contact Mandy Munthree on 083 789 2465 or email info@bonemarrowforsohil.co.za.

It would be greatly appreciated if you can share this with family and friends and together we can save Sohil and so many others who require a bone marrow donor.
